Model History (Brief)
USS Bronstein (DE/FF-1037) was the lead ship of the Bronstein-class anti-submarine frigates built for the U.S. Navy during the Cold War. Named for Ensign Ben Bronstein, she was designed and employed primarily for ASW escort, surveillance and fleet protection. Bronstein entered service in the mid-1960s, operating with U.S. Atlantic and worldwide task groups, participating in NATO exercises and patrols focused on Soviet submarine activity. In the 1970s she was redesignated FF-1037 and received periodic modernizations to sensors and ASW weapons. She remained a Cold War workhorse through the 1970s and into the 1980s before being retired as newer classes and changing requirements rendered small ASW frigates obsolete.
Dimensions & Scale Notes
The typical overall length of a Bronstein-class frigate is about 372 feet. At 1/350 scale this converts to approximately 12.8 inches (32.5 cm) for the full-hull resin kit. If you prefer a different recorded overall length or would like metric-only dimensions or a scale drawing, we can recalculate and provide additional details.
