Commissioned in 1982, the USS Michigan (SSGN-727) is a converted Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine transformed into a guided missile submarine. It plays a critical role in supporting special operations forces and precision strike capabilities, carrying up to 154 Tomahawk missiles and hosting advanced SEAL delivery systems. This 36-inch handcrafted model is carefully constructed using the traditional plank-on-frame technique and high-quality woods like Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany. From the distinctively modified missile deck to the detailed sonar dome, each element is recreated to reflect the submarine's unique post-conversion design. Construction usually takes between 3 to 6 months, depending on design details and chosen materials. We don’t ship until you are 100% satisfied. You’ll receive progress photos during the key phases of the build: - Hull construction - Deck detailing and module integration - Final painting and finishing touches We’ll make adjustments until you’re completely satisfied with the model. After final approval, your model will be packaged in a made-to-measure wooden crate with internal padding to ensure it arrives safely—anywhere in the world. History
USS Michigan (SSGN-727) was originally commissioned in 1982 as an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine. In the early 2000s, it was converted to a guided missile submarine (SSGN) to support modern naval warfare needs. The conversion involved removing ballistic missiles and adding vertical launch tubes for Tomahawk cruise missiles, as well as facilities to deploy special operations forces and unmanned underwater vehicles. With a length of 560 feet and submerged displacement over 18,700 tons, USS Michigan (SSGN-727) remains one of the largest and most capable submarines in the fleet. The SSGN role allows it to launch precision strikes and conduct covert operations, adding significant tactical flexibility. USS Michigan (SSGN-727) has served multiple deployments supporting both conventional and special warfare missions.
