Brief History
The USS Garcia (DE/FF-1040) was the lead ship of the Garcia-class frigates, built for anti-submarine escort work during the Cold War. Commissioned in the 1960s, she carried the typical ASW gear of the class, including sonar and torpedoes; later modifications included a helicopter/flight deck arrangement. The class used two main superstructure variants — the “short bridge” refers to the lower-profile bridge/superstructure layout found on some early ships. DE-1040 was redesignated FF-1040 during the U.S. Navy’s 1975 ship reclassification, served through the Cold War, and was later decommissioned and disposed of by transfer, scrapping, or use as a target.
Approximate Model Length (1/350 scale)
The Garcia-class overall length is approximately 414 ft (≈126 m). At 1/350 scale this works out to about 14.2 inches (≈36.1 cm).
Note: actual kit length can vary slightly depending on manufacturer measurement points (bow shape, sonar dome, stern overhang) and any included add-ons or fittings.
NOTICE: Model kit does not come with display stand.
