History
USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. Named after Congressman Carl Vinson, a key advocate for U.S. naval power, she was launched in 1980 and commissioned in 1982. As the third Nimitz-class carrier, she represents a cornerstone of American naval strength. Equipped with two nuclear reactors, USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) can operate for over 20 years without refueling and supports a full air wing of over 60 aircraft, including F/A-18 fighters and E-2C Hawkeyes. She has participated in numerous operations, including the Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and humanitarian missions such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake relief. One of her most notable moments came in 2011 when USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) conducted the burial at sea of Osama bin Laden after the U.S. Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan. She continues to serve as a key instrument of U.S. presence and power projection worldwide.
