History
Commissioned in 1969, USCGC Gallatin was named after Albert Gallatin, a former Secretary of the Treasury. The cutter was a vital asset for drug interdiction and search-and-rescue missions. Gallatin was also deployed during the Vietnam War as part of Operation Market Time, showcasing the Hamilton-class’s versatility. Gallatin supported domestic and international operations, including fisheries enforcement and training exercises with allied navies. After decommissioning in 2014, it was transferred to the Nigerian Navy, where it operates as NNS Okpabana.
