History
Commissioned in 1968, USCGC Chase was named after Salmon P. Chase, the U.S. Treasury Secretary who oversaw the creation of the National Banking System. Chase participated in Operation Market Time during the Vietnam War, performing interdiction missions to disrupt enemy supply routes. In subsequent decades, Chase became known for its counter-narcotics operations, intercepting significant drug shipments in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. After being decommissioned in 2011, the cutter was transferred to the Nigerian Navy, where it operates as NNS Thunder.
