History
The USCGC Cape Current was commissioned in the 1970s as a part of the U.S. Coast Guard’s buoy tender fleet. This vessel was deployed along the East Coast, where it ensured the maintenance and proper functioning of navigational aids, including buoys and markers. Cape Current’s role also extended to search-and-rescue operations and pollution response. With its ability to operate under various maritime conditions, the Cape Current supported the safe passage of commercial vessels and provided critical services during maritime emergencies. Over time, the Cape Current was retired, with its legacy continuing in the advanced capabilities of newer vessels.
