Brief History
LCI(G)-67 was one of the US Navy's Landing Craft, Infantry (Large) converted into a gunboat (the “G” conversion) during World War II. LCIs were small, shallow-draft transports built to put infantry directly onto beaches. Many were modified into LCI(G) gunboats by adding heavier guns, rocket launchers, mortars and extra AA weapons to provide close-in fire support during amphibious assaults.
LCI(G)s served as escort and fire-support vessels in both the European and Pacific theaters, taking part in pre-landing bombardments, close suppression of shore defenses, and anti-aircraft/anti-small-craft duties. Hulls like LCI(G)-67 were built on the standard LCI hull and employed where shallow draft and heavy short-range armament were needed. Crews were typically small and conversions were pragmatic wartime adaptations rather than new designs.
Model Size (1/350 scale)
The standard LCI(L) length is approximately 158 feet (about 48.2 m). At 1/350 scale this equates to roughly 5.4 inches long (≈ 13.8 cm).
