Historical Background
The Rudderow class were WWII-era U.S. destroyer escorts built for anti-submarine and convoy-escort duty. Ships of this class were laid down and commissioned in 1943–1944 and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters late in the war, performing escort, ASW screening, and patrol duties. After WWII many Rudderow-class ships were decommissioned or transferred to allied navies during the postwar drawdown.
Note on ship name and hull number: The named ship USS Rudderow was the class lead (DE-224). The hull number shown on this product title (DE-339) is atypical for that name; however, the kit represents the Rudderow-class design and fittings the description above applies to.
Model Dimensions (Approx.)
The real Rudderow-class length overall is approximately 306 ft (3,672 inches). At 1/350 scale this converts to an estimated model length of approximately 10.5 inches (≈26.7 cm). Actual kit length can vary slightly with included bows, display base, or any scale liberties.
