Model History
USS Pittsburgh (CA‑72) was a Baltimore‑class heavy cruiser named for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Built late in World War II, she joined the fast carrier and cruiser forces in the Pacific and took part in the final operations against Japan—providing anti‑air screens, shore bombardment, and gunfire support—and then supported occupation and postwar fleet duties. Like many Baltimores, she spent the immediate postwar years on peacetime patrols and exercises before being placed in reserve as the Navy reduced its wartime fleet.
Approximate Model Length (1/350 scale)
Baltimore‑class overall length ≈ 673 ft. At 1/350 scale this is about 23.1 inches (≈ 58.7 cm), rounded to the nearest tenth.
