Brief History
- USS New York (ACR‑2) was an American armored cruiser built for the U.S. Navy in the late 19th century. Armored cruisers like New York were designed to combine decent speed, heavy gun power and armor for long-range fleet scouting, commerce protection and showing the flag.
- During her career she served as a squadron flagship and on extended deployments. Ships of this type were active in the period around the Spanish–American War and into the early 20th century. By World War I many older cruisers were used for convoy escort, patrol and training duties.
- Like most pre‑dreadnought era cruisers she was decommissioned and disposed of in the years after WWI as newer warship types made her obsolete.
Approximate Model Length (1/350 scale)
