Historical Background
USS New Mexico (BB-40) was the lead ship of the New Mexico–class dreadnoughts. Commissioned in 1918, she carried a main battery of twelve 14-inch guns and spent World War I on training and escort duty. Between the wars she underwent refits and modernization to improve machinery, protection and anti‑aircraft armament. In World War II she served in the Pacific as a carrier escort and shore‑bombardment ship in numerous island campaigns, surviving the conflict and being decommissioned and disposed of in the late 1940s. This kit recreates her circa 1944 appearance, reflecting the wartime modifications that made her an effective support and bombardment vessel.
