Brief History
USS Nautilus (SS-168) was a large pre‑World War II U.S. Navy submarine of the V/Narwhal type that served through the early years of WWII. She carried out reconnaissance, supply and offensive patrols in the Pacific and performed special missions, including inserting raiding parties — most notably supporting the August 1942 Makin Island (Butaritari) raid that delivered Marine Raiders. Nautilus continued wartime patrols and special operations through the war and was decommissioned and disposed of shortly after hostilities ended.
Model Size & Scale
The real Nautilus SS‑168 measured about 382 feet overall. At 1/350 scale this kit represents that length as approximately 13.1 inches (≈ 33.3 cm). Calculation: (382 ft × 12 in/ft) ÷ 350 ≈ 13.1 in.
