Brief history
USS Morton (DD-948) was a Forrest Sherman–class destroyer — a post‑WWII U.S. Navy surface combatant built for multi‑role operations. Ships of this class entered service in the late 1950s and spent their careers on Cold War patrols, NATO and Mediterranean deployments, and a variety of peacetime and wartime operations.
During the 1960s many Forrest Sherman ships, including Morton in the ASW conversion configuration, received anti‑submarine upgrades such as improved sonar, ASROC launchers, DASH/helicopter facilities and other sensor/weapon modernizations to focus on submarine hunting.
Morton subsequently continued active fleet service through the Cold War era before being retired as newer escorts and destroyer designs replaced the class.
Approximate model length
Forrest Sherman–class length overall is about 418 ft 6 in (418.5 ft). At 1/350 scale this kit represents an overall length of approximately 14.3 inches (36.3 cm).
