Brief history
- USS Maury (DD-401) was a Gridley‑class destroyer named for oceanographer Matthew F. Maury. Launched in the late 1930s and commissioned just before World War II, she served in the Pacific Theater throughout the war.
- Maury’s wartime duties included screening carrier and battleship task forces, convoy and transport escort, anti‑submarine patrols, and shore bombardment in the Solomons and other island campaigns. She earned recognition for sustained operations in forward areas and support of carrier strikes.
- Like many wartime destroyers, Maury was retained through the end of the conflict and taken out of frontline service soon afterward. She was decommissioned in the mid‑1940s and disposed of following the postwar drawdown.
Approximate model length (1/350 scale)
The Gridley‑class length overall is approximately 341 ft. At 1/350 scale this corresponds to:
341 ft × 12 in/ft ÷ 350 ≈ 11.7 inches (≈ 29.7 cm)
Your finished 1/350 resin model of USS Maury will be about 11.7 inches (29.7 cm) long (rounded to the nearest tenth).
