Brief History
USS Maine (ACR-1) was a U.S. armored cruiser/second‑class battleship commissioned in the mid‑1890s and sent to Havana Harbor in early 1898 to protect American interests. On 15 February 1898 she exploded and sank in the harbor, an event that galvanized public opinion in the U.S. and helped trigger the Spanish–American War. Later investigations and modern analysis have debated whether the explosion was caused by an external mine or an internal coal‑bunker/boiler blast; the wreck was partly raised in 1911 and a portion remains a memorial.
Approximate Model Length (1/350 scale)
The prototype overall length is typically given as approximately 324 feet. At 1/350 scale this converts to about 11.1 inches (approximate).
(Calculation: 324 ft × 12 in/ft = 3,888 in; 3,888 in ÷ 350 ≈ 11.1086 in → rounded to 11.1 in)
