Brief History
- USS Kennebec (AO-36) was a Kennebec‑class fleet oiler built to the T2 tanker design for service in World War II.
- As a fleet oiler she carried fuel (and often aviation gasoline) to warships and remote stations, enabling underway replenishment and long-range operations in both the Atlantic and Pacific.
- Kennebec supported combat operations during the war, then returned to peacetime duties before being stricken and disposed of after the conflict; many ships of her type entered reserve or commercial service postwar.
Approximate Model Length
The Kennebec‑class/T2 oilers measure about 523 feet overall in real life. At 1/350 scale this equates to approximately 17.9 inches (≈45.5 cm). Note: actual kit length can vary slightly depending on how overall length is interpreted (bow fittings, stern gear, etc.), but ~17.9 is a good rule‑of‑thumb.
