USS Hopkins (DD-7) â brief history
- USS Hopkins was an early 20thâcentury U.S. Navy destroyer named for Commodore Esek Hopkins, the first CommanderâinâChief of the Continental Navy.
- Built and commissioned in the first decade of the 1900s, she spent her peacetime years on coastal and Caribbean patrols, training exercises, and fleet maneuvers.
- Like many surviving early destroyers, she was employed on neutrality patrols and escort/antiâsubmarine duties during World War I and was decommissioned and disposed of shortly after the war.
Approximate model length (1/350 scale)
Early U.S. destroyers of that era were roughly 250 feet (â76.2 m) overall. At 1/350 scale that corresponds to about 8.6 inches (â21.8 cm) long (rounded to the nearest tenth). If you would like a more exact model length, we can look up the shipâs recorded overall length and recalculate.
