Model History

USS Conyngham (DD-371) was a Mahan‑class U.S. Navy destroyer named for Revolutionary War privateer Gustavus Conyngham. The Mahan class were modern 1930s destroyers designed for high speed, heavy torpedo armament, and improved fire control. Commissioned in the mid‑1930s, ships of this class served throughout World War II on screening, escort, patrol, and shore‑bombardment duties—primarily in the Pacific—protecting carriers and convoys and supporting amphibious operations. After the war, ships of this group were largely decommissioned and disposed of in the late 1940s to early 1950s.
