Historical Background
USS Chanticleer (ASR-7) was a U.S. Navy submarine rescue ship (ASR) named after the rooster “Chanticleer.” Ships of this type were built to support submarine operations by providing diving, rescue and salvage capability, tending and recovery of disabled submarines, and submarine escape training.
During World War II and the early Cold War, vessels like Chanticleer operated from forward bases and fleet anchorages, conducting deep-diving and salvage operations, supporting submarine trials and exercises, and remaining ready for emergency rescues. After the war many ASR-type ships continued fleet support and training work before being retired or converted to other roles in the post‑war drawdown.
Model Length (1/350 scale)
Typical length for an ASR of this type is about 210 feet. At 1/350 scale that converts to approximately 7.2 inches (rounded to the nearest tenth).
If you want a more precise model length, provide a specific hull length for ASR‑7 and we’ll convert it exactly to 1/350 scale.
