    History

    USS Brooke (FFG-1) was the lead ship of the Brooke-class guided‑missile frigates, a small series built on the Garcia‑class hull to add guided‑missile capability. Designed for convoy escort, anti‑submarine warfare and fleet air‑defense screening during the Cold War, Brooke‑class ships carried a medium‑range surface‑to‑air missile launcher plus ASW weapons (ASROC/torpedoes) and guns. USS Brooke spent her career on Atlantic and worldwide escort, patrol and training duties before being retired from U.S. Navy service in the late 20th century.

    Approximate Model Length (assembled)

    The typical Brooke‑class length overall is approximately 414.5 ft (about 126.3 m). At 1/350 scale this works out to roughly 14.2 inches (≈36.1 cm).

        • Can I get a decal set for the USS Schofield FFG-3 ?

          The kit comes with a collection of decals which allow for any ship of the class to be represented.

        • Can if be converted to a Garcia Class by replacing the missile mount with a 5”/38

          Not really, since there is a difference in the aft superstructures of the two ships. The better thing to do is to purchase the Garcia kit 4-193, which should get you what you’re looking for.

        • Is the bottom of the hull on this model flat like it looks in the picture or in the standard V-shape like the normal Brooke class?

          The kit has the full underwater shape of the ship.

        • Does this have decals for FFG-1?

          Yes

        • The Brooke began life as DEG-1, guided missle destroyer escort. Is it a reliable representation of that or just FFG fitting?

          The parts that are in the kit are for the FFG version. 


          It will take some scratchbuilding to make the DEG version, specifically the aft superstructure where the DASH hangar was located. 


          Most of the rest of the kit will be comparable to the DEG version, since it was designed for this scratchbuilding possibility. 


          The Glover kit does have the original DASH hangar, but will require some modification to remove the raised stern area and changing the aft gun mount to a missile mount.
