Brief History
- USS Blueback (SS-581) was a Barbel‑class diesel‑electric attack submarine of the U.S. Navy, laid down in the late 1950s, launched in 1958 and commissioned in 1959.
 - She served through the Cold War in patrol, training and antisubmarine-warfare roles and was the last non‑nuclear submarine to serve in the U.S. fleet.
 - Blueback was decommissioned in 1990 and preserved as a museum ship in Portland, Oregon, where she is open to the public.
