    Model History

    The U.S.S. Barney (DDG-6) — named for Revolutionary and War of 1812 naval officer Joshua Barney — is represented here as a Cold War–era Charles F. Adams–class guided‑missile destroyer. Ships of this class were built for fleet air‑defense and escort duties, armed with guided missiles, guns and anti‑submarine sensors. During her career a ship like Barney would typically have conducted regular deployments, multi‑national exercises, and periodic overhauls or modernizations, commonly operating with the U.S. 6th Fleet in the Atlantic and Mediterranean and as part of NATO task groups, before eventual retirement as newer Aegis‑equipped surface combatants entered service.

    Approximate Assembled Model Length

    Charles F. Adams–class overall length: about 437 ft 6 in (133.4 m). At 1/350 scale the assembled model measures approximately 15.0 inches (38.1 cm).

        • Can your purchase the stand separately?

          You can look at a company called Grandpa's Cabinets. They sell custom stands for these models. Thanks for the inquiry!

        • Is there a Mark 11 launcher available? I want to build the John King ddg 3. It had the twin arm launcher

          The kit comes with both the twin launcher and the single launcher.

        • Do you have the decals for USS Henry B Wilson DDG7?

          The kit has decals for all the ships in the class.

        • I am wanting to get the USS Goldsborough as a birthday gift for my father in law. Does this model come with decals for DDG 20

          Yes it does!

        • I’d like to build the Goldsborough, the hull had a distinctive double bubble sonar blister along the keel. Do you include any info on that?

          I believe that the Barney kit can be built as the Goldsborough. The sonar domes should be the same, since you're mentioning two, and the Barney had the PAIR configuration.

        • How long is the model????? I was on the USS Conyngham DDG 17.

          About 15" long

        • Is there a difference between the USS Barney DDG 6 and the USS Henry B Wilson DDG 7?

          Other than minor detail differences between the two ships, the Barney kit should allow you to build the Wilson.

        • Do you have the USS Joseph Strauss DDG16. Do the decals include Bridge wing awards to ship?

          The decal sets we use I believe have the bridge wing markings for at least the excellence awards, but 'm not sure if they have the medal awards. However, you are correct that the decal sets will cover this aspect of making the ship as the Strauss.

        • Are there any pictures of one of the Adams class DDGs built?

          The pictures shown are all the pictures available. Please feel free to look at the other Iron Shipwright's products that we offer, as some will have pictures of the finish product, which should give you an idea of the detail and accuracy of the kits in general.
