        QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

        Ask a Question
        • does she have a flat bottom hull? If not what sort of display stand can you supply or recommend? P.S. my father was on board this ship in WWII. By Pearl Harbor, she had been converted to a seaplane tender. Using her 3-inch gun she shot down the first Japanese plane that morning one of five planes shot down by ship return fire. The plane she brought down was a torpedo plane that had put a fish into the side of use Colorado. Later in the war, in the Aleutians, she was attached by two Betty bombers. Unable to get the navy to support the AAF sent to P-38s. They shot down the Betty bombers. The ship was saved by the plane my dad had been an engineer on and help build. So his ship was saved by his plane! That was his only good memory of WWII.

Interesting story. Thanks to your dad for his service.
The kit is a full hull kit with a rounded bottom. We don't supply stands, but you can look at a company called Grandpa's Cabinets. They make custom stands.

        • How long and how high is the model kit in inches?

          Short Answer: 6.4 inches long

Long Answer: At 188 feet long, the USS Avocet was a relatively small ship type (minesweeper) compared to the much bigger battleships, like the Bismark which was 823 feet long.

1/350 scale ships would mean that a ship that was 350 ft long in real life would be 1 ft long as a model. The Avocet would be 6.4 inches long, and something like the Bismark would be 28 inches long.

The formula is: Ship's Real Length in feet (L) multiplied by 12, to get the inches. Then divide that by 350 to get the length in inches of the model (M). (L*12)/350=M
