Model History
USS Allen (DD-66) was a Sampson‑class destroyer built for the U.S. Navy during World War I. Sampson‑class ships were commissioned around 1916–1917 and performed convoy escort, anti‑submarine patrols, and fleet screening in the Atlantic during the war. In the interwar years, ships of this class commonly carried out routine fleet and training duties; several were also loaned to the U.S. Coast Guard for Rum Patrol duty during Prohibition. Many Sampson‑class destroyers were decommissioned or scrapped under interwar naval treaty reductions in the 1920s–1930s. If you are referring to the specific hull DD‑66, its service largely follows this general Sampson‑class pattern: active in WWI, interwar fleet or Coast Guard activity for some ships, and retirement before or early in WWII.
Model Dimensions (Approximate)
Sampson‑class overall length ≈ 315 ft. At 1/350 scale this is approximately 10.8 inches (≈ 27.4 cm). Rounded to the nearest tenth: 10.8 inches. Note that exact model length can vary slightly depending on whether the kit represents overall length including fittings or uses a slightly different reference LOA; use the kit’s stated length for exact measurements.
