    Overview

    Iron Shipwrights' 1/350 scale US Landing Ship Medium kit delivers exceptional detail and historical accuracy for advanced modelers. Each kit includes a full resin hull, precision photo-etch parts, and comprehensive instructions to recreate an authentic LSM in miniature. Decals for all ships in its class are included.

    Historical Background

    The LSM-1 name refers to the lead hull/type of the World War II U.S. Navy Landing Ship, Medium (LSM) series. Introduced in 1944, LSMs were designed to carry tanks, vehicles, cargo and troops directly onto unimproved beaches via a bow ramp, filling the gap between larger LSTs and smaller landing craft. Built in large numbers for the Pacific island‑hopping campaigns, LSMs supported assaults at Leyte, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and elsewhere, performed general transport and salvage duties, and after the war many were decommissioned, scrapped or transferred to allied navies. Armament was light (primarily anti‑aircraft guns) and the design emphasized shallow draft and a robust bow ramp for rapid offloading.

    The full-size LSM overall length is approximately 203 feet. At 1/350 scale this is about 7.0 inches (approximately 17.8 cm). Note: actual resin kit length can vary slightly by manufacturer depending on how fittings, bow ramp, or detailing are modeled.
