Model History
The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes iron ore carrier launched in 1958 and, at 729 feet long, one of the largest freighters on the Great Lakes. On November 10, 1975, during a fierce storm on Lake Superior, she foundered and sank with the loss of all 29 crew members. The wreck, which lies in deep water on the lakebed, and the tragedy have been the subject of extensive investigation, memorials, and the famous song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.
