History
HMS Ajax was a Royal Navy Leander-class light cruiser built in the 1930s. She is best known for her role, with HMS Exeter and HMS Achilles, in the 1939 Battle of the River Plate against the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee. During World War II Ajax carried out convoy escort, patrol, and fleet actions in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and later the Indian Ocean, undergoing wartime refits and repairs as required. She survived the war and was paid off and disposed of in the late 1940s.
