History of HMS Repulse
HMS Repulse was a Renown-class battlecruiser of the Royal Navy, launched in 1916. Though she arrived too late to play a major role in World War I, Repulse served actively during the interwar years and underwent significant modernisation in the 1930s — receiving improved armour, upgraded fire control, and aircraft facilities to extend her combat capability.
At the outset of World War II Repulse conducted convoy escorts and patrols, later joining Force Z with the battleship Prince of Wales. On 10 December 1941, while operating off the coast of Malaya and without air cover, Repulse was attacked by Japanese land-based aircraft and sunk. Her loss, alongside Prince of Wales, stands as a pivotal moment in naval history, underscoring the ascendancy of air power over traditional surface fleets.
