History
In 1930, Sir Thomas Lipton's challenger, Shamrock V, led four American syndicates to design contenders for the America's Cup. Starling Burgess and the legendary Nat Herreshoff teamed up to create the Enterprise, an 80-foot J-boat that was the largest and fastest of its time. With a heavy keel, two centerboards, and a towering 162-foot mast made of hollow aluminum, Enterprise was built for speed and stability. Equipped with 24 winches, her crew executed swift maneuvers. Enterprise triumphed over the other challengers and faced Shamrock V off Newport, Rhode Island, in September 1930. She won all four races, securing the America's Cup and maintaining an 80-year record of U.S. dominance in yacht racing.
